Strawberry Cup 2011
Helped enormously by the glorious weather on Sunday 24th July, there was a very good turn-out for the annual Strawberry Cup. Stephen Harris and his able assistant, Norman, did the honours for the pairings and handicaps which produced a multitude of very exciting and close matches.
After the 1st round the Strawberry Cup tea was enjoyed by players and guests basking in the sunshine. Thanks to the catering team this year - Amanda, Anne, Avril, Elspeth and Heather. Also, Suzanne brought along one of her birthday cakes to share, thanks.
Two closely fought semi final matches were watched by an enthralled audience before the epic final produced a cliff-hanger finish at 5-5, suddden death deuce and the winners were ... Patrick and Elspeth. Well done to Colin and Antonia for ensuring that it wasn't a runaway victory ... Congratulations to Patrick who has been a stalwart participant for many years and now has his name on the famous Strawberry Cup trophy.
Thanks to Margaret for judging the fancy dress - won by Antonia (who opted not play the final in her Smurf Hat!!!!) - might be a decision regretted - could have swung the match!!!! Last but not least thanks to Chris for taking on the challenge of umpiring a tense final - never an easy job but ably done - much appreciated.
